Fifty Shades by EL James

Post  zillie on Sat Apr 21, 2012 8:24 pm

So who has heard of this triology of steamy books that have taken most of the world by storm.

I have to admit I'm not sure about them. I enjoyed them speeding through them at a rate of about a book a day and at about 500 pages, although I've read them through my phone is pretty fast for me. My problem is I wouldn't want my little sister reading them, and with them being popular are readily avaliable through amazon. Like LankyLil had complained about the other day which I have to say I have read through and agree with you about how certain content is accessed through amazon. Searching for fifty shades, which is not pure filth by the way you can soon come across reading material that is, but then again I guess some people would argue that you should watch your child whilst on the internet. But then again it is easy to use the net to keep a child quiet every once in a while.

She can be a bit weak and wishy washy throughout the book despite the content. Also I am failing to see the similarities to twilight other than their love for one another despite their rocky start.

I might try my hand at writing a review after I am done, providing I have the time.

Sorry just wanted to put my musings out there.

Liz

That's the thing with some books ... I'm no prude ... and sex is a natural expression of the physical side of love. I have read some books that have very good sex scenes that are sensual, sexy and totally in context with the story. However, some stories seem little more than soft porn with mere threads of raggedy story tagged on as an attempt to masquerade them as propel novels.

My issue with Amazon was that the books are listed in the 100 best sellers (where children's books are also listed) and that with one click you can see the pornographic content .... I know that there is a market for such books but I think that they should be accessed through the erotic fiction link and not so easily accessible. Amazon is not a porn site .... it is an ordinary store and as such should take child safety more seriously. Rant over!

I completely agree with you there it needs to have appropiate departments for certain audiences and protect the content that isnt appropiate for certain users.

Hopefully amazon and other retailers will one day realise this and things will be changed.

My next book it The snowman by Jo Nesbo, my friends bought it for me at christmas so its about time I started reading it ooops!

I bought 'Fifty Shades of Grey' last week cheerful I agree with you both about amazon, ever since I read Lil's post about it, I have noticed more and more how inappropriate the books are, I'm not a prude but come one amazon, think of the kids! Mad

I perservered and read all three ... and cannot see why everyone raves at such poorly written rubbish. The plot had potential but was poorly developed. The writing was amateurish ... as though written by a teenager. The relationship isn't sub/dom it is abusive (especially when she is frightened he will hit her when they are out). The ending was totally unrealistic.

Completely unrealistic
Spoiler:
and it totally weirded me out when she mentioned at the end that the baby she was carried liked what they did in the bedroom (the baby kicked more) the poor baby was probably kicking to get away from them!

I hated the whole goddess thing and how the more confident Ana got, the more annoying she became! Mad Mad
